“I’m Sorry” Can Go a Long Way

Monday, July 24th, 2006

In the past I’ve written about how the power of a sincere, well-timed apology can go a long way towards fending off unwanted lawsuits.  Today, Law.com features an article with more evidence supporting that strategy.  For more strategies to avoid lawsuits and leverage the law into a powerful business tool see The Business Guide to Legal Literacy: What Every Manager Should Know About the Law.

HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?

Legal Advice is expensive.  Associate lawyers joining major firms command starting salaries in the $125-145,000 range and those salaries translate into high billable hour rates for clients.

On July 31, 2006 the Institute of Management and Administration will be hosting a panel discussion on “Associate Compensation Increases: Where Do We Go From Here?”  Many law firm leaders argue that increasing the going rate for associates is long overdue and that such high salaries are necessary to lure top talent to the firm.  I’ll be on the panel representing the client perspective.

The live 90 minute audio conference will include questions from the audience and starts at 2:00 p.m. EST.  If you would like the dial-in information for this lively session drop me a line at hhasl-kelchner (at) legalliteracy (dot) com by July 26, 2006.
